ORIGINAL MANUKA HONEY
PROBABLY THE MOST EXCEPTIONAL HONEY IN THE WORLD
If golden, liquid or creamy, light or dark: Honey is reputed as very healthy nutrient for thousands of years. But Manuka honey tops things off. It is so valuable that even many celebrities swear by it. Ed Sheeran, for example, treats his voice with it. Scarlett Johannson applies it to her face, and it is also present in Gwyneth Paltrow’s kitchen—just in case. In particular with actresses and pop stars, who care for their body, this honey is very famous. But what is the special feature about Manuka honey?
The answer is simple: Manuka honey is more than just honey! Meanwhile, the unique natural properties of this honey are proven scientifically. So the constantly rising worldwide demand is no surprise.
Manuka honey with its dark color is produced by honey bees from the flower nectar of the Manuka tree (New Zealand tea tree). This bushy plant, which exclusively grows in New Zealand, is per se renowned for its incredible effects. But as a honey, the effect is multiplied.
The Manuka plant blossoms only a few weeks every year. Therefore, the harvest yields are limited and differ every year, due to the natural seasonal conditions. The native inhabitants of New Zealand use the “liquid gold” as traditional natural medicine for decades. The most popular effect of this honey is its effect against pathogens like bacteria and viruses. Among other substances, the Pinostrobin, which gives the honey its dark color, is responsible for this effect.
But the really unique character of the Manuka honey results from its high natural content of polyphenol methylglyoxal (MGO). This substance is contained in high amounts in the Manuka plant (New Zealand tea tree). And this is a good thing, because in a study of the TU Dresden, the anti-bacterial effect and in particular the bactericide characteristics of MGO could be proven.
MGO, also called polyphenol methylglyoxal, can also be found in conventional honey—however, in a significantly lower concentration than in the Manuka honey. For comparison: While our breakfast honey has a MGO content of 0 to at most 20 mg MGO/kg, it can range way above 100 mg/kg in Manuka honey.
The more mature the New Zealand Manuka honey is, the higher the MGO-content is. If the label contains the information MGO 100+, then this means, that at least 100 mg polyphenol methylglyoxal are contained in one kilogram of this honey. By the way, if the Manuka honey is to be used for medical purposes, a minimum amount of MGO 100+ is recommended.
In order guarantee the MGO indication, every beekeeping in New Zealand is obliged to have their honey tested on its MGO content by a government certification agency. Our Manuka honey provides a very rare minimum amount of, believe it or not, 514+! This means an exceptionally high MGO content, which makes our product so valuable, because the higher the MGO amount is, the more active the product unfolds its wide spectrum of effects.
Manuka honey with such a high MGO content can be used perfectly, for example, to support the whole immune system. The sinuses, the gastrointestinal tract, the urinary tract, bladder, and the area around the prostate.
By the way: Many germs and viruses do not like this high amount of MGO at all. And consequently, multiple studies nowadays confirm, that Manuka honey has a strong anti-bacterial effect.
